The Netherlands faces two major challenges: building 1 million new homes before 2030 at a time when the power grid is congested. The Netbewustbouwen.com platform launched today addresses both of these pressing issues. This initiative - started by network company Alliander and supported by leading partners from the construction, real estate and energy sectors - brings together professionals to share knowledge and work together on smart and sustainable solutions to keep housing construction from stalling.

"Grid-conscious building is no longer a choice, but an opportunity that must be seized with both hands," says Maartje Brans. "The power grid is full in many places, so it is no longer a given that new homes can be connected in time. The solution is to work fundamentally differently when designing new residential areas. Energy must be an integral and guiding component in the design. By working together with all parties who have a role in both housing and energy supply from the early stages, we can not only address the housing shortage, but at the same time build a future-proof energy system."

Building the future of housing and energy together

By collaborating with everyone who has a role in the housing and energy supply task, the housing shortage can be addressed while building a future-proof energy system. The new platform is therefore available to anyone active at the intersection of housing and energy supply. From construction companies, property developers and architects to municipalities, housing corporations, installers and grid operators. On the platform, innovative ideas are shared, practical examples exchanged and new collaborations forged. The goal? To accelerate the housing task without further burdening the energy grid.

"To properly develop new neighborhoods and districts, it is necessary that all parties involved take into account the situation on the power grid at an early stage," says Jos de Vries. "Everyone needs clear solutions to ensure that the power grid does not become overloaded and at the same time build enough affordable housing. This requires continuous knowledge development and techniques that enable the desired scale. The Netbewustbouwen.com platform plays an important role in this: it offers the opportunity to share knowledge and data, enabling us to meet the challenges of our time together."
